Haven't posted in a while, but that's a sort of a good thing for me. It means I'm hard at work making music happen, and that the thought of blogging has gotten lost in the shuffle.
The Pass is poised to really take off, and it has taken me by surprise, given that we have only been playing together for a relatively short time (only about nine months, really). We've been enthusiastically approached by not one, but two record labels. I don't want to spill too much info, because nothing has been finalized yet, but more likely than not, once the calendar turns over to 2010, we'll be starting work on full-length release. It goes without saying that we're extremely flattered with the buzz we've been able to whip up in such a short time. We're excited to see what the future holds, and big things are on the horizon. When you see people wanting to really get behind your music, it's a good feeling. We have a killer show coming up at Zanzabar in Louisville on December 12 as well, where we'll be joined by our buds You're My Density and Dude Plays Saxophone, as well as the mad spinning skills of OK Deejays.
Ropeadope Records will be releasing the debut EP of my solo project Brainbheats in February, so I'm looking forward to that as well. Brainbheats is a project that I've really had in mind for at least a few years, but has never really had any particular direction. It has been just me, writing and recording in my home studio, and starting out, I never really had any specific plans on what to do with this music, or if I would necessarily do anything with it at all. A handful of those pieces became Paradigm tunes along the way. Now, I feel like the time is right to make it something of its own, and I'm psyched that Ropeadope believes in it enough to help me bring it to the world.
With the EP release imminent, my focus right now is taking it that step further into live performance. It will be solo, for the most part, but I definitely want to avoid the "pressing play" approach that so many electronic artists take. I want to make it engaging, not just for the audiences' sake, but for my own. It has been a challenge to try and convert a purely one-man studio project into a one-man performance project, but progress has been made, and I expect to be performing this material very soon. I've considered bringing other musicians into the mix, but for this particular project, at least initially, it just feels right to do it on my own.
In the meantime, I've uploaded a brand new track called "Telluride" to my Myspace player. Check it out.
That's about all for now. I'll be spending this Thanksgiving week back in beautiful Maine, where I grew up. Wherever you are, be sure to take a moment and appreciate your life.

Sick my man. When are coming up north again? Musically speaking, not just to visit.
I just listened to Telluride like five times in a row. Great song! Is that one on your album?
Speaking of making electronic performances seem like good performances: have you seen the Eigenharp? It's a pricey gadget, but ooh is it beautiful to watch. There's YouTube videos of a couple of guys covering Moby songs with nothing but Eigenharps and it is pretty wild to watch. I'm not even a musician and I want to play with one of them.
I have seen the Eigenharp, and it's a pretty wild toy indeed.
Telluride isn't on the EP, Jed. I just wrote that one, and despite the release date, the EP was actually wrapped up over the summer.
I don't know when I'll be on tour next, Tom, but hopefully sometime next year.
