Some Squarepusher Action

I found this video on Youtube of Squarepusher, apparently from Dutch MTV, in his modest home studio, circa 1996. Interestingly, it's rather stripped down, and mostly old Roland stuff too: basically just a TR-606 drum machine, a TB-303 Bass Line, an SH-101 synth, and a reel-to-reel 8-track (and a bass, of course). Just goes to show that it's not what equipment you have, it's what you do with the equipment you have. Did that make sense? Yes, I think so.

You can skip over the introduction, as the good stuff starts about a minute in. This is part 1 of the interview. Part 2 can be found here, which shows a bit of Squarepusher backstage and performing at his first festival appearance (good quote: "I thought it would be bigger").

It's all about the hardware. I don't think squarepusher started using any computers until sometime in the 2000s.

Pretty cool. I would have expected him to have his studio packed wall to wall with various instruments and gadgets.
