I've always thought that Iceland must be an incredibly hip place to live, seeing as how the small island country has spawned such amazing and eclectic artists as Bjork and Sigur Ros. Speaking of which, Sigur Ros will be releasing its first ever DVD, called Heima (US release date: Nov. 20), as well the companion album Hvarf-Heim (released today), which is a combination studio EP/live acoustic EP.
Heima is a project similar in many ways to Live at Pompeii, the film that captured Pink Floyd's live performance (sans audience) in the ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii in Italy. For Heima, Sigur Ros spent two weeks "touring" their native Iceland, playing places like community halls in tiny fishing villages, national parks, empty expanses of wilderness, and also a gigantic homecoming concert in Reykjavik that was the largest in the country's history. I can't wait to check it out, because it sounds incredible. Here's a trailer:
